Stocks drifted higher Thursday morning as investors considered corporate earnings, digested European and domestic economic data. Market participants this week have been waiting to hear from Fed Chair Jerome Powell, who will deliver remarks at the central bank's annual Jackson Hole symposium Friday. Investors widely hope that Powell's rhetoric will lay the groundwork for rate cuts after the central bank's next few meetings. As of Thursday morning, markets priced in a 98.1% probability of a 25 basis point ease after the September meeting, as well as a 68.1% probability that rates would be another 25 basis points lower after the October meeting, according to CME Group. Currently, the TSX is up 0.05% and the DJIA is up 0.52%. EURCAD is up 0.01% trading between 1.4705 and 1.4766. GBPCAD is up 1.05% trading between 1.6105 and 1.6287. JPYCAD is up 0.35% trading between 0.01245 and 0.01252. Gold is down 0.34% trading between $1,492 and $1,504USD/oz, silver is down 0.30% trading between $16.94 and $17.14USD/oz, while oil (WTI crude) is up 0.27% trading between $55.46 and $56.45.
