U.S. stocks fell, led by a drop in technology shares, as earnings season rolled on. The pound fluctuated amid Brexit negotiations. In earnings, Bank of America jumped after deal fees surged, continuing a string of strong bank results. Regional banks including Bank of New York Mellon and PNC Financial advanced after delivering solid quarterly numbers. A dollar gauge edged lower and Treasuries rose after a report showed retail sales unexpectedly declined. The Stoxx Europe 600 dropped, while benchmark indexes in Asia finished mostly higher, though most gauges trimmed the gains after China threatened to retaliate if the U.S. offered legislative support to pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong. Stocks dipped in Shanghai and the yuan weakened. The Hong Kong standoff and Brexit doubts are moving geopolitical risks back to the forefront for investors. Currently, the TSX is up 0.05% and the DJIA is down 0.12%. EURCAD is up 0.17% trading between 1.4551 and 1.4619. GBPCAD is up 0.50% trading between 1.6730 and 1.6995.
