U.S. stocks fell in early trading Monday, giving back earlier gains, while European shares were flat at the start of a busy week that includes a meeting between Xi Jinping and Donald Trump on Thursday and culminated in the monthly U.S. jobs report. In what is probably not an ideal start to the 2 year Brexit negotiation process, a spat over the status of Gibraltar escalated to the point where a senior member of Theresa May's governing party suggested that the prime minister would go to war to protect the south Iberian rock. Spanish Foreign Minister Alfonos Dastis attempted to calm the situation, saying that is looks like someone in the U.K. is losing their composure. On the data front, U.K. manufacturing PMI showed a decline to 54.2 in March as inflationary pressures continue. The pound dropped following the release. Currently, the TSX is up 0.07% and the DOW is down 0.08%. EURCAD is up 0.62% trading between 1.4155 and 1.4300. GBPCAD is up 0.25% trading between 1.6660 and 1.6763.
