U.S. stocks rose toward a record, the USD strengthened and Treasuries tumbled as investors piled into riskier assets after Hurricane Irma wreaked less damage than forecast and North Korea failed to exacerbate tensions. After making landfall in the Florida Keys yesterday morning as a Category 4 storm, Hurricane Irma weakened as it traveled through the state's west coast, with the latest reports downgrading it to a Category 1 storm with top winds of 85 miles per hour. Estimates for the total damage have dropped to $49 billion from as high as $200 billion. For the Federal Reserve, the storms that have battered the southern U.S. are making it more difficult to read the economy's pulse, with William Dudley, president of the New York Fed, warning that it could affect the timing of short-term rate increases. Late tonight U.K. time, the House of Commons will vote on the Great Repeal Bill, designed to ease the country's exit from the EU. A victory for Theresa May's government seems likely, presuming her own party members pledge support for the contentious piece of legislation en masse. The vote will kick off what should be a busy week for pound traders, with inflation and retail price data tomorrow, ahead of Bank of England decision on Thursday. Currently, the TSX is up 0.43% while the DOW is up 0.97%. EURCAD is down 0.26% trading between 1.4510 and 1.4609. GBPCAD is down 0.13% trading between 1.5975 and 1.6053. JPYCAD is down 0.10% trading between 0.01114 and 0.01115. Gold is down 0.86% trading between $1,331 and $1,339USD/oz., silver is down 0.30 trading between $17.70 and $17.91USD/oz., while oil is down 0.21% trading between $47.01 and $47.93.
