World shares ground out a fresh record high on Tuesday, making it almost 50 for the year, although Europe tread cautiously as markets waited to see whether Spain's Catalonia region would push for independence later in the day. Japan and South Korea returned from extended breaks to give Asia a lift, but the Catalan uncertainty meant it was a lower start for the euro zone's main bourses and for Spanish bond markets. Catalonia's secessionist leader Carles Puigdemont is due to address the region's parliament in Barcelona. He could ask the assembly to vote on a unilateral declaration of independence from Madrid. Currently, the TSX and the DJIA are up 0.34%. EURCAD is down 0.10% trading between 1.4710 and 1.4755. GBPCAD is down 0.15% trading between 1.6460 and 1.6517. JPYCAD is down 0.40% trading between 0.01111 and 0.01137. Gold is up 0.45% trading between $1,282 and $1,293USD/oz., silver is up 0.73% trading between $16.93 and $17.22USD/oz., while oil is up 2.60% trading between $49.57 and $50.59.
