U.S. stocks fluctuated, the dollar advanced and Treasuries slipped after data showed signs of inflation in producer prices as the Federal Reserve starts its two-day meeting. The S&P 500 Index edged higher after closing at a record, while European equities pushed to a five-week high amid a $5 billion deal in the tech sector. Energy shares also rose, helped by firmer oil prices. In Asia earlier, the Nikkei 225 retreated from a 26-year high, and Hong Kong and Chinese shares slipped. The euro weakened and most European bonds declined even as German investor confidence slid in December for the first time in four months. Currently, the TSX and the DJIA are up 0.06% and 0.31% respectively. EURCAD is down 0.20% trading between 1.5070 and 1.5141. GBPCAD is up 0.25% trading between 1.7078 and 1.7183. JPYCAD is up 0.30% trading between 0.01129 and 0.01132. Gold is down 0.15% trading between $1,238 and $1,246USD/oz., silver is down 0.1% trading between $15.64 and $15.81USD/oz., while oil is down 0.45% trading between $57.70 and $58.5.
