U.S. stocks slumped, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average tumbling as much as 447 points, after results from Caterpillar and 3M added to concern that corporate profits have peaked. The yen, gold and Treasuries all rallied on demand for haven assets. The sell-off in U.S. equities put the S&P 500 Index on track for its 12th loss in 14 days as investors grow concerned that the trade war and rising interest rates have put an end to runaway expansion of corporate profits. Caterpillar sank as much as 8 percent in early trading after flagging concern over rising materials costs, while 3M dropped more than 7 percent after cutting its forecast. The Russell 2000 Index turned negative for the year. Currently, the TSX is down 1.31% and the DOW is down 1.52%. EURCAD is up 0.08% trading between 1.4991 and 1.5048. GBPCAD is up 0.23% trading between 1.6961 and 1.7095. JPYCAD is up 0.37% trading between 0.01160 and 0.01170. Gold is up 1.40% trading between $1,222 and $1,239USD/oz., silver is up 1.25% trading between $14.51 and $14.80USD/oz., while oil is down 2.52% trading between $67.71 and $69.61.
