The S&P 500 Index climbed from a 14-month low as investor nerves seemed to steady a day after a rout in U.S. stocks. U.S. gains were led by industrial and financial companies. The Stoxx Europe 600 Index pared losses by more than half to trade slightly lower on the day. Treasuries and the Japanese yen advanced amid a lingering mood of caution after Chinese President Xi Jinping disappointed investors by offering no fresh commitments to stimulate the world's second-biggest economy in a keynote speech. Oil extended recent declines, with the benchmark U.S. grade briefly falling below $48 a barrel, as traders fretted about a glut of supply as well as the outlook for growth. The dollar slipped and the euro stayed higher even as German business sentiment deteriorated to its lowest level in more than two years and talk of a chaotic Brexit increased. Currently, the TSX is up 0.55% and the DOW is up 1.24%. EURCAD is up 0.19% trading between 1.5186 and 1.5285. GBPCAD is up 0.25% trading between 1.6905 and 1.7023. JPYCAD is up 0.79% trading between 0.01188 and 0.01193. Gold is up 0.56 trading between $1,245 and $1,250USD/oz, silver is up 0.32% trading between $14.61 and $14.72USD/oz., while oil is down 3.00% trading between $47.90 and $49.60.
