Stocks extended losses after U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said America is pushing for a trade deal with China that includes significant structural changes to the Asian nation's economic model. "With Lighthizer, we know he tends to be on the hawkish side of the spectrum in terms of policy", said Quincy Krosby, chief market strategist at Prudential Financial Inc. Equities were already trending lower amid fresh headwinds from disappointing corporate earnings and geopolitical tension in Asia. The pound headed for its highest close since last June, spurred by a promise from U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May for a vote to delay Brexit if her proposed deal fails. Oil posted its second daily increase as Saudi Arabia, OPEC's most powerful member, signaled that it's incline to extend supply cuts into the second half of the year. Investors have added the India-Pakistan flare up to a host of uncertainties they're tracking, from China trade talks to Brexit, that could rein in a recovery in global equities from December lows. Currently, the TSX is down 0.39% and the DOW is down 0.49%. EURCAD is down 0.20% trading between 1.4936 and 1.5006. GBPCAD is up 0.47% trading between 1.7416 and 1.7541. JPYCAD is down 0.47% trading between 0.01184 and 0.01193. Gold is down 0.39% trading between $1,322 and $1,329USD/oz, silver is down 0.93% trading between $15.74 and $16.06USD/oz, while oil is up 2.71% trading between $55.61 and $57.02.
